I would have liked to go, but I really don't want to make the trip unless I have a car I want to take to show off.

It's a bunch of 1,000+ HP cars getting together and laughing at the poor guys who can only build cars with 500hp.
Actually, I do not know more then what you know. But I still want to go one day. The amount of power and sexiness (cars) there would probably make my head explode.

It started as a national Supra meet back in the day, and quickly became the "Superbowl of street racing." Since the release of the GT-R, it has become more a balls to the wall high horsepower meet up that includes all sorts of cars, mostly imports and exotics. This year, they are doing 60-whatever roll races at Texas World Speedway on Wednesday and Thursday. These used to be 60-120 races done at the track but now with TWS they can go past 120. Friday is the dyno day where all the big boys come throw down for the highest number. Side note: my friends and I discovered that if you get there early enough, and not enough high HP cars are ready, they will let you bring your car onto the dyno. I got my Mustang dynoed twice for free, and both times placed second to last on the HP board! Also Friday night is a huge night meet that used to be held at a restaurant that had a bikini contest and stuff, but since the cops showed up the last two years to break it up, they're having the party at Hennessey. Then Saturday and Sunday are the drag races. Also all week Houston basically turns into the Fast and the Furious with people street racing all throughout town. In summary, it is pretty insane.

It is definitely an automotive pilgrimage. I feel bad this year for not taking advantage of my proximity and going, but my excuse is a timing belt change on the Focus and getting the Mustang prepped for COTA haha. I really really wanted to go to the roll races but don't want to take off work.

There's information on all the legal activities over at tx2k.com. There's of course a lot of street racing that goes on as well. However the big hp guys you aren't going to just find out doing lapse on the highways. Those guys setup races before hand, go out, do their pulls and leave.
the "slow" cars are the ones you see out menacing the public transit ways.
I want to go to just be around horsepower for a week. There's always gatherings that happen all over the place, the legal events. I'm not entirely concerned with the street racing stuff.

Yea you will only ever find people not in the know racing on the main freeways. You have to be someone special to find out where the big boys are going to run.
